ANNUAL BOARD MEETING
Our annual Board meeting this year will be March 19th at 6:00pm at the Clubhouse. All are welcome! Two current Board members, Tripp Segars who is running for reelection and Kenny Owen who was appointed by the Board to replace Anna Callaway, are the Board’s nominees. If you are interested in running for one of these positions, please contact Cathey Plunkett before March 14th.
TREE CUTTING
As you may have noticed, we have had to remove a lot of trees in Summertree. Most of these trees were infested with pine beetles, so they had to be cut down. Several people have asked if we would be planting trees to replace these. The Board has no plans to replace any trees this year, except in the circles. Crepe Myrtles died in Overton Court and Rutherglen Way and they will be replaced this spring. We also will be planting Crepe Myrtles on Sunbury. After all that is done the Board will look at the budget and see if anything else can be done this year. The Board has always tried not to spend more than what is allotted in the budget, so no assessments are expected in spite of the significant expense related to the drought-related tree damage.
LANDSCAPING
Last year Summertree had to change lawn services twice, but ended up with Brandon Mitchell of Mitchell’s Landscaping. Please remember Brandon is new so he might miss something occasionally that he is supposed to mow or take care of. Be patient with him and call the Property Manager if you notice a problem with the Lawn Service.
EVENTS
Mark your calendars because we have some fun events coming up!
What: Easter Egg Hunt and Petting Zoo
When: Saturday, March 23rd at 1 p.m.
We're having our annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Clubhouse this year but with new special guests. The petting zoo will be available from 1-2 so make sure you come early and see all the farm animals! As always, the egg hunt will be broken down into age groups with the younger kids starting first. Egg Hunt will begin at 1:15.
What: Neighborhood Block Party
When: Saturday, April 6th 11 a.m.-until
Several neighbors have asked about hosting parties on their streets so we thought we'd throw one big event and have a grand ole time! Similar to Halloween, each street will have a captain. Y'all can potluck it, do outdoor games, whatever strikes your fancy! (For example, Deertrail is doing a crawfish boil) If you'd like to be a captain, contact Sarah Fowler at 662-251-5060.
What: Sounds of Summertree
When: Friday, May 17th, 6-9 p.m.
In a new event, we're kicking off summer with a concert at the clubhouse! Bring your picnic baskets and settle around the front lake as a local musician serenades you from the gazebo. This event is open to all ages.
LAKES
Plans for the lakes this year are as follows: Shock the lower pond, Refill the fish feeder as needed and fertilize both ponds.
LIMBS
The city will not pick limbs up on Woodgreen Drive unless we have a Neighborhood work day. Please do not put your limbs on Woodgreen Drive for any reason! They will pick them up in front of your house as long as YOU put them out there, not your yard service or tree cutter.
DOGS
The most common complaint I receive from Summertree Residents is that residents are letting their dogs poop on other people’s property. Please only let your pets relieve themselves on common property and then, pick it up. There is an excess amount of dog poop in common areas of Summertree. When you do take your dogs to the common area to relieve themselves, please also take a bag with you to remove it and put it in the trash. We all want to be good neighbors
HOME IMPROVEMENTS
Anything you do to maintain the outside of your house helps everyone’s property value in Summertree. Please remember that if you are doing anything that changes the outside appearance on your property, you must turn in an ARC form and receive approval before starting your project. This includes replacing or repairing a roof, cutting trees down, exterior painting, building or replacing a fence, adding a storage shed, installing a flowerbed, etc. If you aren’t sure if you need approval, please call me, at 601-856-9070, and I’ll let you know. The ARC approval form can be printed from our website, www.mysummertree.com. If you don’t have a computer, I’ll be glad to drop a form by your house.
